Hansard Society/Wegov event: More heat than light? Can social media inform policy-making? in September 2012

WeGov is happy to announce a joint Hansard Society/Wegov event with the title "More heat than light? Can social media inform policy-making?"

This event is an opportunity to explore issues around social media and policy-making. There will also be a demonstration of the WeGov toolkit, which enables policy-makers to analyse social networking sites and improve their engagement with citizens using social media. The event will address the following themes:

  • Personal or public space - how do citizens feel about their views being used by policy-makers without their knowledge?
  • Trust - do politicians need to be clearer about what they are using social media for?
  • Representativeness - could using social media to inform policy advantage the views of the already privileged?

The event will feature high-profile speakers from the political sphere, civil society and the media (TBA). Audience participation is encouraged - there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion from the audience once the panel have spoken. There will also be live demonstrations of the WeGov toolkit before and after the panel discussion.

The event will take place on Tuesday 11th September, 2012 in Westminster, London. Lunch from 12.00 noon, panel discussion from 12.15 - 1.45 pm.
